Coventry City U21’s defender Josh Reid has completed a permanent return to Scottish Premiership side Ross County for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old has ended his two-year stay with the Championship side, in favour of a return to his boyhood side, ahead of the 2023/24 SPFL campaign.
His Career So Far
Josh Reid began his professional career with Ross County in the Scottish Premiership, breaking through during the 2020/22 season, making 24 appearances. As a result, Reid earned a move to Coventry City on deadline day in January 2021.
During his time with the Skyblues, Reid began by playing a starring role for the clubs U21’s and played a part in the clubs triumph in the 2022 Professional Development League final, by beating Bristol City. However, he failed to make a first-team appearance for the club, aside from a brief Carabao Cup appearance and struggled on loan with League Two side Stevenage last season, despite picking up a promotion medal.
The Deal
The left-back joined the Skyblues for a fee of approximately £300,000 in January 2021. He signed a three-year deal with the club, meaning his contract was set to expire in June 2024.
However, Reid has opted to return to Scotland early, completing an undisclosed move back to Ross County. The cost of the transfer is significantly less than the figure that the club paid for the left-back just two years ago.
Our View
Personally, we think this deal is definitely the best for all involved. Reid has fell out-of-favour at the club and has fallen behind Jack Burroughs in the pecking order at the club.
Reid gets to return to Scotland, which will be a major benefit to his exposure of first-team football and he will develop the experience that he has been lacking since his move in 2021 and we wish him all the best.
