Coventry City have secured their second signing of the 2023/24 season, as Everton striker Ellis Simms completes a £3.5 million switch to the CBS Arena, ahead of the club's pre-season tour of Portugal.
The 22-year-old has became the clubs latest signing, following the arrival of Bristol City defender Jay Dasilva in May, with more transfers expected in the coming days. The Everton academy graduate has completed an initial £3.5 million switch to the Skyblues, which will increase to £5 million in performance related add-ons. If the Skyblues were to gain promotion into the Premier League, Simms' transfer would increase to £8 million.
Simms was a product of the Everton academy and has enjoyed a lot of loan success in his career so far. His first loan spell saw him form a formidable partnership with Jerry Yates at Blackpool, where he enjoyed a six-month spell. He then had a stint with Scottish Premiership side Hearts where he scored at Celtic Park. Last season, Simms began with Sunderland in the Championship, before being recalled in January and he went on to make a further 11 Premier League appearances, scoring once against Chelsea.
The striker is seen as the replacement for departing striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is expected to sign for Sporting Lisbon in the coming days and has signed a four-year deal with the Championship club.
Welcome aboard Ellis!
