Preview | Forest Green Rovers Vs Coventry City (Friendly)

Coventry City's first-team will face their first pre-season friendly, ahead of the 2023/24 as they travel to face League Two side Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday Evening, hoping to start the journey with a win.

The Team

Following their pre-season tour in Portugal, the Skyblues are back with five new additions into their side. Jay Dasilva, Ellis Simms and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto will all likely feature for the club, whilst the club's latest signings in Brad Collins and Joel Latibeaudiere are more than likely to miss out. Similarly, a large majority of the clubs U21's should feature, with the likes of Marco Rus, Justin Obikwu and Ryan Howley in-line to feature in a mixed side.

Previous meeting

The last time the two sides came face-to-face was back in October 2019, during an EFL Trophy group-stage clash during the 2019/20 football league season.

In the first 45 minutes, both sides enjoyed plenty of opportunities to take the lead. Forest Green's Taylor Allen blazed over, before Coventry's Ben Wilson was forced to deny the hosts following a poor backpass from Michael Rose.

Continuing into the second-half, Amadou Bakayoko had three separate opportunities which were all saved brilliantly by the Forest Green goalkeeper and the two sides were forced to settle for penalties.

In the shoot-out Matt Godden, Zain Westbrooke and Callum O'Hare all scored, before Liam Kelly blazed over to keep the scores at 3-3. Michael Rose, Tennai Watson, Josh Eccles and Sam McCallum all score, but with the scores at 8-7, Kyle McFadzean missed the vital penalty to see the club miss-out on a bonus point.

  • Starting XI - Ben Wilson (GK), Tennai Watson, Kyle McFadzean, Michael Rose, Sam McCallum, Zain Westbrooke, Liam Kelly, Josh Eccles, Charlie Wakefield, Amadou Bakayoko, Will Bapaga
  • Subs - Marko Marosi (GK), Dom Hyam, Liam Walsh, Fankaty Dabo, Callum O'Hare, Gervane Kastaneer, Matt Godden
