First-half
The Skyblues had the games opening opportunity which arrived after eight minutes when Jake Bidwell's cross found Matt Godden but his header went off-target.
Within six minutes, Shrewsbury Town took the lead with a former Skyblues man coming back to haunt the club. Academy graduate Tom Bayliss found space, before firing an effort at Brad Collins which was saved, but the rebound fell to an unmarked Ryan Bowman who made it 1-0 from close range.
However, this motivated the Skyblues to continue applying pressure as Ben Sheaf tested former Coventry keeper Marko Marosi and Gustavo Hamer saw an effort deflected behind for a corner.
All the pressure eventually paid off when Kasey Palmer drew the Skyblues level after 32 minutes, when his long-range effort flew past Marosi to make it 1-1.
The Skyblues were awarded a penalty four minutes later after Ryan Bowman brought down Jake Bidwell in the area. However, Matt Godden's penalty was saved comfortably by Marko Marosi as the first half came to an end.

second half
Coventry made four changes at the break as Ryan Howley, Liam Kelly, Jack Burroughs and Evan Eghosa came on to replace Gustavo Hamer, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Kasey Palmer and Joel Latibeaudiere.
The first 25 minutes went by uneventful for either side, before the Skyblues began hunting for a winner. Matt Godden did brilliantly to pick out Ellis Simms, who was denied brilliantly by the goalkeeper.
Similarly, Liam Kelly went close from distance as his flying effort went inches over the crossbar.
Former Sunderland man Carl Winchester went close for the home side, before he was denied brilliantly by Skyblues goalkeeper Brad Collins to keep the scores tied.
With ten minutes to play, Coventry made three further changes as Justin Obikwu, Tristen Batanwi and Kai Andrews replaced Ellis Simms, Ben Sheaf and Josh Eccles but there wasn't anything of note in the dying moments as the game ended level.
