Coventry City have officially confirmed the departure of star striker Viktor Gyokeres, who joins Portuguese side Sporting CP for a club-record departure, following a two-and-a-half year spell.
The 25-year-old has became the clubs record departure, which was a record that has stood for over two-decades, following Robbie Keane's move to Inter Milan in 2000. Gyokeres finished the season as the division's highest goal contributed player from the 2022/23 season, scoring 21 goals and assisting a further 10 in the league.
Gyokeres joined the Skyblues originally on loan from Brighton Hove Albion in January 2021, helping keep the club in the Championship. This led to him securing a £1 million switch to Coventry on a permanent deal that summer. He scored 17 goals in his first season, picking up five further assists. However, he improved last season with 22 goals and 12 assists in all competitions, as well as breaking onto the international scene with Sweden.
The star striker has completed a £20.5 million switch to the Portuguese side, with the Skyblues also set to receive add-ons and a sell-on percentage.
Thanks For Everything Viktor!
