Skyblues Win Race For Japanese International

Coventry City have completed their third signing of the 2023/24 season, as versatile Japanese international Tatushiro Sakamoto completes a £1.2million switch from Belgium side KV Oostende.

The 26-year-old has became the clubs latest signing, following the arrival of Bristol City defender Jay Dasilva and Everton's Ellis Simms, who joins as a replacement for Viktor Gyokeres. The forward has spent the last 18 months in Belgium after arriving in Europe from Japan and joins Coventry after they beat two top-flight Belgium sides for his signature.

Sakamoto began his professional career with Japanese side Montedio Yamagata, who play in the second-tier of Japanese football, before earning a move to fellow Japanese side Cerezo Osaka in 2020. Within two-years, Sakamoto joined Belgium side KV Oostende on loan, before making the deal permanent six months later in June 2022. He's made 169 appearances in his career, scoring 17 and assisting a further 27, as well as having the ability to play as a winger, attacking midfielder or wing-back.

The versatile man has signed a three-year contract with the EFL Championship side, becoming our first ever Japanese player in the club's history.

Welcome aboard Tatsuhiro!
