Obikwu Pens Pro Deal

Coventry City U21’s striker Justin Obiwku has successfully signed his first professional contract with the Championship side, following his impressive performances since the turn of the year.

The 19-year-old has been training with the first-team squad throughout pre-season so far, including travelling with the squad to Portugal and featuring in both first-team friendlies so far.

His Career So Far

Justin Obikwu is a product of the Skyblues academy, rising through the clubs youth setup, before playing a starring role in the clubs U18s and U21s squads.

Last season, Obikwu began the campaign behind the likes of Tom Costello and Harrison Nee, but quickly established himself as one for the future. He had a brief loan spell with Non-League side Hanwell Town last season, as well as ending the 2022/23 PDL season in superb form and has already scored for the first-team this month, with the fourth goal against Forest Green Rovers.

The Deal

Obikwu has enjoyed a scholarship over the last couple of seasons but has now put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the Championship side, following his impressive performances.

The 19-year-old has signed a one-year professional contract with the Skyblues but it is currently unconfirmed as to whether their is an additional year option or not.

Our View

Obikwu ended the 2022/23 season as one of the brightest talents at the football club, something which was also proven in the Birmingham Senior Cup final, despite our loss to Stourbridge.

Given how much he is already training with the first-team, I expect him to feature in the EFL Cup clash against AFC Wimbledon next month, as well as starring for the U21s next season as the leading man in attack.
