Coventry City U21’s midfielder Marco Rus has signed a new deal with the Skyblues, following an impressive 2022/23 campaign out on loan.
The 20-year-old had two loan moves last season as well as being promoted to the U21's captain after Jay McGrath joined St. Patricks Athletic on loan.
His Career So Far
Marco Rus began his career with Championship rivals Southampton, after joining from Yeovil Town at youth level. However, after two years at St. Mary's, Rus left the club to join Coventry City on a free transfer.
Since arriving with the club, Rus has consistently become a standout performer in the club's u21's, sparking speculation linking him with a possible first-team call-up. He also had two successful loan spells with Hereford and Chorley last season, where he scored his first goal in professional football and was named as Coventry's U21's player of the season.
The Deal
Rus joined the Skyblues on a free transfer, signing an initial two-year deal, which would have seen him become out of contract this summer if it hadn't been for the new contract offer.
However, the playmaker has now successfully signed a new two-year deal, keeping him with the football club until June 2025.
Our View
Personally, we believe that Marco Rus is one of the best players in the club's youth setup at the moment and has already earned plenty of praise from the fans, following his consistently impressive performances.
He will either be given his debut in the Carabao Cup clash with AFC Wimbledon next month, as well as featuring in the club's first-team camp in Portugal or he will be granted permission to be loaned out again, in search of regular first-team football.
